Music audio brainstorm cont + Treatment breif 15/09/15

Today we were breifed upon completing the teeatment task. note were taken ( as shown in the pictures below) . Also, today was a day of analysing the chosen music from the brainstorm completed in the last lesson.  The song which was chosen is by Chris Brown, the song is called feeling better. We then discussed about the roles we would perform. Tarel and me will be both directing and handling camera, where as Rashaan will be acting (Lip Synching ). However, we arose a problem where we realised we would also need a female actress as the music audio consists of a female voice. We then listed multiple candidates who could possibly be used, but we required the voice to match the face. Nevertheless, the task was complete and next lesson we will be concentrating on producing the actual treatment!

Treatment pitch to class with feedback

Feedback

Do not  make a simple music video, make a more abstract video with contempory dancing.

Do not do dancing if you don’t have dancers.

Her who can do better

Natural lighting or
don't just make a common  video

 Changes after Feedback
  • We shall not have dancing in the music video. As we don't have professional dancers it would not make the music video look good.
  • New story line

Task 3 – Treatment speech to group and ideas

Task 3 – Treatment speech to group and ideas

CB= Chris Brown
Short Summary of Do better:
CB believes that cutting ties now would hurt her less in the long run. Then goes into saying, if they kept going out they would probably get into arguing and the bad blood would increase. Talks about how finding God made him stay with the girl, how he still feels the girls and her friends hate him. Nevertheless, CB says that he accepts that it’s over and he won’t try to save the relationship.
Often when somebody breaks up, you try to save everything with your last words. You say that you still love the person and that he/she is still important for you. And that often ends in the person who breaks up being in tears. But CB doesn’t want to have anything to do with her.

Misc-En-Scene:
-      Plant pot ( breaking of it shows his frustration)
-      Lamp

Locations:

´ Photography Studio At LSC (Dark, Low Key Lighting to represent CB’s mood)

´ Queen Victoria Park (Night Time) – When CB releases a mellow song he is usually seen walking contemplating about the song and life in the videos.

´ Brick Lane (Daytime) – To add some scenery into our shots. This will

We have a few other locations, that we are looking to study further, but for now, these locations above will be set locations that we will hopefully start our shooting from.

Clothing:

For the studio shoot, we are looking at an all-black clothing requirement. This will allow us to represent a sort of isolated dark environment, as we may use a black backdrop. Apart from this, we will look to use a variety style of clothes. We may also add in a type of sports outfit, which would state a true stereotypical insight of a male trying to make an impression for the female.

Lighting:

We will also use a range of lighting from natural light (Day and Night), to artificial light, such as Low Key Lighting and High Key Lighting. This music video is all about pain and love, we want to have a contrast of shots with different lighting

Casting:

´ Rashaan- Main Actor (Shadowing Chris Brown)

´ Tajay or TBC- Main Actress (Shadowing Brandy)

´ Tyrell- Main Cameraman

´ Danyaal- Director and Cameraman 2

´ Relative amount of Background people 5-10 Maximum

Inspiring Music Video:

´ Olly Murs Feat Demi Lavato- Up

´ Drake Feat Rihanna- Take Care

The inspirations came from these videos, as the studio shots stood out the most. They symbolised isolation within both singers and their current situation. A personal inspiration from one of my case studies is Trey Songz-Can’t Help but Wait. The feature of the flashback of a montage is really smart, as it can link with the theme of the song ‘Do Better’. Here, we would use the flashback of montage to let the audience understand how things were before both (Chris Brown and Brandy) wish that they done better in the relationship that they were in pursuit of.

Themes included: Love, Isolation and Regret. The Length of the music video is 3:48 but we will extend it to 4:15, as we want to include an introduction to show different locations and also, we want to show a few credits at the end of the music video.

Audience:

´ Teenagers/Young Adults, 16-24

We will predominately be aiming the music video at a younger age group of around 16-24as the actors in the video will be black. However our secondary audience will hopefully be of a White and Hispanic ethnic group. Looking at the NRS Social Grade, our audience will fit under the Grades C1C2D

We will look to broadcast our music video on social media sites, such as YouTube, Twitter and MTV. This is mainly because of our audience, as they are 16-24 and the use of social media is high within this age range. Twitter will allows us to show snippets of the music video, whereas YouTube and MTV will be placed on the platforms of TV and Internet.

Conceptual, narrative or performance based?

This so I have an understanding of conceptual, narrative and performance based music videos.
This is not my work but taken off the internet.

Performance
A performance video focuses on showing footage of the artist or band either in a casual environment, i.e. socialising with friends, or performing, live performance or staged performance. This style of video uses the band/artist/group throughout the majority of the production and the artist, band members are often miming the words to the song. The genre of music where performance videos are common is indie and rock. The costing on this type of production are also most likely to be the lowest as the producers are in effect giving the audience the most realistic image of the band as it is only the band they are showing. The downside of this is that the band will need to be relatively established to pull off the video, or else interest will become saturated.

Concept
Concept videos are based around a single idea or concept and are usually unusual and obscure, even surreal for the audience. This unusual content is an attraction to many consumers, which draws them in. Concept videos usually are combined with one of the other two styles as the market demands for greater accessibly rather than the somewhat niche that is pure concept art. A successful concept video will keep the audience entertained and constantly looking at what or who is on the screen. No particular genre or type of music is more likely to use concept videos, in fact a range of artists covering all genres have used concept/ art based videos.

Narrative
A song with a narrative based music video the song includes a narrative story of the lyrics/ words being acted out in some way. This style relies on imagery to produce a story for the audience to follow and some narrative videos include clips from films that the song has been featured in. This seems to be used a lot in slower songs, and often tend to be love stories

Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools (Drank) (Clean) - Case Study (3/3)

[bridge]
Pour up (Drank), head shot (Drank)
Sit down (Drank), stand up (Drank)
Pass out (Drank), wake up (Drank)
Faded (Drank), faded (Drank)

[Verse 1]
Now I done grew up 'round some people livin' their life in bottles
Granddaddy had the golden flask, backstroke every day in Chicago
Some people like the way it feels, some people wanna kill their sorrows
Some people wanna fit in with the popular, that was my problem
I was in a dark room, loud tunes, looking to make a vow soon
That I'ma get fucked up, fillin' up my cup, I see the crowd mood
Changin' by the minute and the record on repeat
Took a sip then another sip, then somebody said to me:

[Hook]
"Nigga, why you babysitting only two or three shots?
I'mma show you how to turn it up a notch
First you get a swimming pool full of liquor, then you dive in it
Pool full of liquor, then you dive in it
I wave a few bottles, then I watch 'em all flock
All the girls wanna play Baywatch
I got a swimming pool full of liquor and they dive in it
Pool full of liquor, I'mma dive in it"

[Bridge]
Pour up (Drank), head shot (Drank)
Sit down (Drank), stand up (Drank)
Pass out (Drank), wake up (Drank)
Faded (Drank), faded (Drank)

[Verse 2: Kendrick & his conscience]
Okay, now open your mind up and listen me, Kendrick
I am your conscience, if you do not hear me, then you will be history, Kendrick
I know that you're nauseous right now
and I'm hopin' to lead you to victory, Kendrick
If I take another one down, I'ma drown in some poison, abusin' my limit
I think that I'm feelin' the vibe, I see the love in her eyes, I see the feelin'
The freedom is granted as soon as the damage of vodka arrived
This how you capitalize, this is parental advice
Then apparently I'm over influenced by what you are doin'
I thought I was doin' the most 'til someone said to me:

[Hook]
"Nigga, why you babysitting only two or three shots?
I'mma show you how to turn it up a notch
First you get a swimming pool full of liquor, then you dive in it
Pool full of liquor, then you dive in it

One chopper, one hundred shots, bang
Hop out, do you bang?
Two chopper, two hundred shots, bang
I ride, you ride, bang
One chopper, one hundred shots, bang
Hop out, do you bang?
Two chopper, two hundred shots, bang

[Interlude]
(Sherane)
Aw man... where is she taking me...
Where is she taking me...

[Verse 3]
All I have in life is my new appetite for failure
And I got hunger pain that grow insane
Tell me do that sound familiar?
If it do then you're like me, making excuse that your relief
Is in the bottom of the bottle and the greenest indo leaf
As the window open I release everything that corrode inside of me
I see you joking, why you laugh? Don't you feel bad?
I probably sleep and never ever wake up
Never ever wake up, never ever wake up
In God I trust but just when I thought I had enough

[Skit]
They stomped the homie out over a bitch?
K-dot, you good, blood?
Now we can drop, ye we can drop you back off
That nigga's straight man, that nigga ain't tripping
We gon' do the same ol' shit
I'mma pop a few shots, they gon' run, they gon' run opposite ways
Fall right in ----'s lap
And he gon' tear they ass up, simple as that
And I hope that bitch that set him up out there, we gon' pop that bitch too
Wait hold up, aye I see somebody
(Car door opens and gunshots are fired)
Aha! Got them niggas, K-dot, you good?
L----, you good?
Yeah blood, I'm good, Dave, you good?
Dave? Dave, say something - Dave?
These bitch ass niggas killed my brother!

[Verse 1]
And I know she'll be the death of me, at least we'll both be numb
And she'll always get the best of me, the worst is yet to come
But at least we'll both be beautiful and stay forever young
This I know, yeah, this I know

[Pre-Chorus]
She told me, "Don't worry about it"
She told me, "Don't worry no more"
We both know we can't go without it
She told me you'll never be alone, oh, oh, woo

[Chorus]
I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh
I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh

[Verse 2]
And I know she'll be the death of me, at least we'll both be numb
And she'll always get the best of me, the worst is yet to come
All the misery was necessary when we're deep in love
This I know, girl, I know

[Pre-Chorus]
She told me, "Don't worry about it"
She told me, "Don't worry no more"
We both know we can't go without it

But I love it, but I love it, oh

Future - Blood on my money - Case study (1/3)

Powered by emaze

UPDATE 1: FIXED NOISE ERROR WITH VIDEO

UPDATE 2:

Synopsis: The video starts up with a close up of all the props, such as the umbrella, roses, and coffin. Then the video continues to show Future and all the all the other actors. The video continues to show the coffin and has flashes to the kidnapping of someone who then ends up on a train track. There is very little dancing, where future dances for 3 seconds and it isn't really dancing but mostly a dance type called skanking. The video is narratively based as the artist and other people n. The target audience is all genders and age range is 15-30. The artist's authorage is the use of the boxes in the music video, also his slow paced rapping throughout the video.

Themes/motifs: The overall theme is destruction, it's all about how drinking and money is destroying his life.

Camerawork, editing mise en scene: the first shot is the panning of a lady licking a lollipop which can be seen as being seductive. It then shows different wide angle shots of people starting to dance with boxes on their heads The next scenes show shots of the camera focusing on Logic himself from handheld camerawork of him walking to, a mid shot of him sitting on the stairs and a zooming out overhead shot and he is rapping in all of them. There are various shots of people dancing in a car park which are zooming in and out shots as well as mid shots. Next there's handheld camerawork of Logic rapping making the video fast paced complementing the song. There are a lot of editing in the video. Firstly there are many jump cuts from one dancer to another and cuts where Logic is in a different location. There are special effects added which is like an old T.V losing signal, this is when the music changes from being slow paced to the start of the rap and fast paced. There's a fast space like blast effect which goes from the faster rap to the slower interlude changing the flow of the song slightly. A cartoon bomb is added in the video which can portray the explosion Logic is having in the charts showing how successful he is now. When logic kicks the camera the image is blurred showing the speed of the kick, additionally when the artist says "whoa there" the image is shaken up implying that he has change the song up a bit. There are flashes from one dancer to another making the video more fun and attractive also the cuts get faster accompanying the pace of the song. The costume worn throughout the video are all casual which can show that they are having fun throughout the video. There are boxes on the dancers head showing the different emotions Logic has gone through in his life. The lighting is quite bright even in the night of the car park showing that the video is positive. the locations are in his hometown and are all outdoors too.

Analysis of a music video

 Features of a music video:

Questions to consider:
  • Is the music video based in real life, or does this take place in a fantasy world?
  • Is the way the artist is portrayed in the video really how that person dresses and cats in real life?
  • Consider how the musician is dressed - is that how regular people dress?
  • Consider the actions taken by the artist in the video - would they really do these things in real life?
  • What is the benefit for the musician to portray him or herself this way?
  • Does the video portray people in stereotypical ways? Are these reflections of real people or are they just one-sided characters?
  • Consider the editing - how does the frequency of cuts from shot to shot affect how you feel about the video?
  • Consider the setting - why did the director choose this location or setting?

  • MY analysis
The video presents a lot of close up on cartoon human Lego figures, the close ups continue to there lips this presents a considerable amount of lip synching. The idea of using Lego is very creative and aesthetically pleasing however I may consider that as Lego represents a Childs toy that it may not depict the music video in a such a smooth way. From beginning to start the video uses frame shots to show the building of people and clouds moving. The video starts of with a 1, 2 and 3 just like a movie would start in the old days. The Lego band figures look very pixelated this may be caused by a bad quality of video recorder being used or to represent the simplicity of the video. Nevertheless, the video has an arrangement of multi coloured figures and uses a variety of different shots to present this video. The video looks as though it was supposed to represent a day out for the band.
