Team meeting #2

In today's lesson, we assigned our team roles to complete the pre-production process. This includes the Recce, Risk Assessment Forms, Location Sheet, Release Form, Storyboard and Call Sheets. Rashaan is in control of the storyboarding whilst Tryrell and me will split the roles of completing the Risk Assessment form, Recce powerpoint and the Release Form. The Call sheets will be completed nearer to the time of our shooting of our music video.

Music audio brainstorm cont + Treatment breif 15/09/15

Today we were breifed upon completing the teeatment task. note were taken ( as shown in the pictures below) . Also, today was a day of analysing the chosen music from the brainstorm completed in the last lesson.  The song which was chosen is by Chris Brown, the song is called feeling better. We then discussed about the roles we would perform. Tarel and me will be both directing and handling camera, where as Rashaan will be acting (Lip Synching ). However, we arose a problem where we realised we would also need a female actress as the music audio consists of a female voice. We then listed multiple candidates who could possibly be used, but we required the voice to match the face. Nevertheless, the task was complete and next lesson we will be concentrating on producing the actual treatment!

Treatment pitch to class with feedback

Feedback

Do not  make a simple music video, make a more abstract video with contempory dancing.

Do not do dancing if you don’t have dancers.

Her who can do better

Natural lighting or
don't just make a common  video

 Changes after Feedback
  • We shall not have dancing in the music video. As we don't have professional dancers it would not make the music video look good.
  • New story line

Task 3 – Treatment speech to group and ideas

Task 3 – Treatment speech to group and ideas

CB= Chris Brown
Short Summary of Do better:
CB believes that cutting ties now would hurt her less in the long run. Then goes into saying, if they kept going out they would probably get into arguing and the bad blood would increase. Talks about how finding God made him stay with the girl, how he still feels the girls and her friends hate him. Nevertheless, CB says that he accepts that it’s over and he won’t try to save the relationship.
Often when somebody breaks up, you try to save everything with your last words. You say that you still love the person and that he/she is still important for you. And that often ends in the person who breaks up being in tears. But CB doesn’t want to have anything to do with her.

Misc-En-Scene:
-      Plant pot ( breaking of it shows his frustration)
-      Lamp

Locations:

´ Photography Studio At LSC (Dark, Low Key Lighting to represent CB’s mood)

´ Queen Victoria Park (Night Time) – When CB releases a mellow song he is usually seen walking contemplating about the song and life in the videos.

´ Brick Lane (Daytime) – To add some scenery into our shots. This will

We have a few other locations, that we are looking to study further, but for now, these locations above will be set locations that we will hopefully start our shooting from.

Clothing:

For the studio shoot, we are looking at an all-black clothing requirement. This will allow us to represent a sort of isolated dark environment, as we may use a black backdrop. Apart from this, we will look to use a variety style of clothes. We may also add in a type of sports outfit, which would state a true stereotypical insight of a male trying to make an impression for the female.

Lighting:

We will also use a range of lighting from natural light (Day and Night), to artificial light, such as Low Key Lighting and High Key Lighting. This music video is all about pain and love, we want to have a contrast of shots with different lighting

Casting:

´ Rashaan- Main Actor (Shadowing Chris Brown)

´ Tajay or TBC- Main Actress (Shadowing Brandy)

´ Tyrell- Main Cameraman

´ Danyaal- Director and Cameraman 2

´ Relative amount of Background people 5-10 Maximum

Inspiring Music Video:

´ Olly Murs Feat Demi Lavato- Up

´ Drake Feat Rihanna- Take Care

The inspirations came from these videos, as the studio shots stood out the most. They symbolised isolation within both singers and their current situation. A personal inspiration from one of my case studies is Trey Songz-Can’t Help but Wait. The feature of the flashback of a montage is really smart, as it can link with the theme of the song ‘Do Better’. Here, we would use the flashback of montage to let the audience understand how things were before both (Chris Brown and Brandy) wish that they done better in the relationship that they were in pursuit of.

Themes included: Love, Isolation and Regret. The Length of the music video is 3:48 but we will extend it to 4:15, as we want to include an introduction to show different locations and also, we want to show a few credits at the end of the music video.

Audience:

´ Teenagers/Young Adults, 16-24

We will predominately be aiming the music video at a younger age group of around 16-24as the actors in the video will be black. However our secondary audience will hopefully be of a White and Hispanic ethnic group. Looking at the NRS Social Grade, our audience will fit under the Grades C1C2D

We will look to broadcast our music video on social media sites, such as YouTube, Twitter and MTV. This is mainly because of our audience, as they are 16-24 and the use of social media is high within this age range. Twitter will allows us to show snippets of the music video, whereas YouTube and MTV will be placed on the platforms of TV and Internet.

Conceptual, narrative or performance based?

This so I have an understanding of conceptual, narrative and performance based music videos.
This is not my work but taken off the internet.

Performance
A performance video focuses on showing footage of the artist or band either in a casual environment, i.e. socialising with friends, or performing, live performance or staged performance. This style of video uses the band/artist/group throughout the majority of the production and the artist, band members are often miming the words to the song. The genre of music where performance videos are common is indie and rock. The costing on this type of production are also most likely to be the lowest as the producers are in effect giving the audience the most realistic image of the band as it is only the band they are showing. The downside of this is that the band will need to be relatively established to pull off the video, or else interest will become saturated.

Concept
Concept videos are based around a single idea or concept and are usually unusual and obscure, even surreal for the audience. This unusual content is an attraction to many consumers, which draws them in. Concept videos usually are combined with one of the other two styles as the market demands for greater accessibly rather than the somewhat niche that is pure concept art. A successful concept video will keep the audience entertained and constantly looking at what or who is on the screen. No particular genre or type of music is more likely to use concept videos, in fact a range of artists covering all genres have used concept/ art based videos.

Narrative
A song with a narrative based music video the song includes a narrative story of the lyrics/ words being acted out in some way. This style relies on imagery to produce a story for the audience to follow and some narrative videos include clips from films that the song has been featured in. This seems to be used a lot in slower songs, and often tend to be love stories
